Steven G. Mihaylo - The Original Human of CSUF

You've all seen him around, but today we're showcasing the timeless style of Mr. Steven G. Mihaylo, distinguished CSUF alumnus and namesake of huge buildings on Nutwood Avenue. From his perch on the brick bench in front of the building named in his honor, Steven casually sits back and takes in the sight of Mihaylo Hall and the crowds of students who pass by to and from class each day. With his cuffed pants and bronze-colored suit jacket, Steven showcases an effortless business casual look, the laid-back aesthetic completed by his choice to forgo a tie in favor of a smart-looking Oxford shirt unbuttoned at the top. The unassuming but sophisticated wristwatch and classic loafers are the perfect accessories for his ensemble. - Andrew

CSUF Fashion Show Favorites

At the "Round the Clock" Fashion Show, Titans modeled some trendy spring fashions. These were some of our favorites:

Like all the models in the show, this Titan is modeling clothes from local Orange County clothiers. Here, she flaunts an all-black two piece ensemble. The well-fitted top contrasts with her loose and flowing skirt, and represents the kind of bold summer fashion we expect to see a lot of in the coming season. Her pumps scream a powerful, independent message and highlight the idiosyncratic fashion choices apparent in this get-up.

We loved this yellow blazer because it gave off the trendy hipster vibes while his pants and shoes gave off a more classy, traditional feel. This blend of avant-garde and conservatism is the outfit of the modern gentleman, and we think (and hope) that this is a look that will last.

This handsome Titan leads the pack with a timeless red sweatshirt under a cream blazer. As with the gentleman above, this sophisticated look is both trendy and traditional, and has been adopted by A-listers and average fashion buffs across the fashion world. The fashion show demonstrated that so-called hipster fashions have rapidly become the standard in both casual and formal wear - and we don't have a problem with that at all.

Taking things down a notch, a bit - we noticed that the footwear adopted by many of the models line up with current trends in men's fashion. But don't just take our word for it; have a look at what our friends at GQ have to say:

Meet Russel Vinson

This week's human...

RUSSEL VINSON

Everyone, meet Russel. A freshman business major, Russel plans on concentrating in entrepreneurship and marketing, but (as you can probably guess), he's also got a great sense of style and an interest in fashion. When we caught up with him, he was wearing a floral button-up oxford, faded Levi's 501 trousers, and fresh pair of classic vans. And for stylish back-wear, he had a caramel tan leather backpack. Russel plans to put his business talents and love of fashion together by starting his own clothing line. Ambitious? Yes. Doable? From what we saw of Russel, definitely. And not at all surprising from an active member of the CSUF Fashion Club. Look forward to big things from him in the future....

Meet Michael

This week we found Michael Harden, a first-year English and History major. Michael paired a Hugo Boss casual wear sweater with a more preppy polo shirt, which he unbuttoned at the top to achieve a more relaxed, but still sophisticated look. The blue Levis jeans were a nice segue to his bright yellow shoes. We love his choice to include this one stand-out article of clothing, which is a technique we love to use ourselves. The shoes grab your attention and as you work your way up, the rest of the ensemble tells you more about him.

Meet Antoine

We caught up with Antwone outside of the Gastronome the other day and, well, see for yourself.... This BFA major is influenced by the streetstyles he grew up alongside of in Los Angeles. An acting major, Antwone comes from a family of performers, who you may have seen in various commercials or TV programs. His outfit today—made up of a camo varsity jacket by 10.Deep, a russet Oxford passed down from his father, and a well-loved pair of Vans—is an urban style that blends in perfectly with the palm trees and sun-baked pavement of LA. His style is a combination of the edgy and the sentimental: his shirt was previously owned by his father, and the timeless leather band around his wrist is one he’s worn since middle school. “My friend told me not to dress like a homeless person today, so I dressed up just for him,” Antwone jokes. Tasty sense of style and humor…and oh yes, he’s single. Ladies, please form an orderly line. - Boris Sevo

Introducing our first Human of CSUF

This week we discovered Paul Kim: 18 years old, an Orange County native. Of Korean descent, majoring in elementary education, Paul likes skating and photography. His is an indie style that is both simple and sophisticated. Here he rocks a light gray oxford, blue chinos, and checkered vans. This skater style has seen a resurgence in popularity in recent years, but Paul manages to achieve a fresh, invigorating take on this ubiquitous look. -Cameron Samaniego

Our Mission

ABOUT US

You see them, standing out from a crowd for a split second, and then they're gone. But what caught your eye - their sense of fashion, their unique look - lasts longer than the transient moment in which you saw them in the first place. We all know that there's more to a person than a good looking set of clothes, but in our perpetually on-the-go environment, we don't get a chance to get to the person behind that ensemble. And that's what this blog is about: each week, we'll feature a CSUF student with a fresh, compelling style and tell you a bit about who they are.

38,000 students, 38,000 stories.

Welcome to Humans of CSUF.
